Special Challenges for Unique Familly

Having a family member in a wheelchair is a unique challenge.  While, by law, public places are supposed to be equipped with devices to accommodate a wheelchair, this isn’t always the case.  One place we had a problem was the school locker rooms.  My son was required to participate in swimming classes and lessons, but the locker room didn’t have a folding shower seat or a shower that he could use.  We had to fight to either have him exempted from the class or have the locker room outfitted for his use, and for the use of other children in the same situation.  The school ended up changing the locker room in order to avoid the problem in the future.
